The classic solitaire game everyone knows. The goal is to build all four suits onto the foundations from Ace up through King.

Klondike solitaire game

The Deal

28 cards are dealt into seven tableau piles: the first pile has one card, the second has two, and so on up to seven cards in the last pile. Only the top card of each pile is face-up; all others are face-down. The remaining 24 cards form the stock.

The Layout

  • Tableau: Seven piles of cards where you build sequences.
  • Foundation: Four piles where you build each suit from Ace to King.
  • Stock: The remaining cards after the deal.
  • Waste: Where cards drawn from the stock are placed.

Rules

  1. Building Foundations: As Aces become available, move them to the foundation area. Build up each foundation by suit in sequence: Ace, 2, 3, and so on up to King.
  2. Building the Tableau: Place cards on tableau piles in descending order with alternating colors. For example, a black 5 can be placed on a red 6. If multiple face-up cards are stacked on a pile, they must be moved together as a unit.
  3. Revealing Cards: When you move the last face-up card from a pile, turn the top face-down card face-up.
  4. Empty Columns: Only Kings may be placed in empty tableau spaces.
  5. Drawing from Stock: Turn cards from the stock to the waste pile. The top card of the waste is available for play. When you play a waste card, the card beneath it becomes available.

Variants

  • Draw modes: Draw 1, Draw 3, or Classic Draw 3-2-1
  • Pass limits: Unlimited passes, 3 passes, or 5 passes through the stock
